Online RRP Training to Become a Certified Renovator

Accredited to Provide EPA Renovator - Initial Course (English) Training

                                Hands-on Class Locations Are Limited
Click Here to Search for Hands-On Training Locations

Please confirm hands-on options before beginning online training.

NOTE: Training in the following states is administered by the individual state, some of which have not currently approved online training.  Online training is NOT available to residents of Alabama, Massachusetts, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oregon, Utah or Wisconsin.  All classes are subject to cancellation if student minimums are not met.

Effective 4/22/2010, painters, remodelers, renovators, landlords, roofers, HVAC contractors and other professionals who work on houses and other child-occupied facilities built before 1978 MUST complete Lead Safe Work Practices (LSWP) Training in accordance with the EPA Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Rule.  The RRP Rule requires that:

  • Renovation firms be certified under EPA's Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule

  • Individuals be trained in lead-safe work practices

  • Training providers be accredited by EPA.

  • You use Lead Safe Work Practices when working in targeted facilities.

What is Lead Safe Online?
Lead Safe Online is our online training, testing and performance tracking system.  Here, companies (wishing to train multiple employees), or individuals, can complete our “online” course in Lead Safe Work Practices (LSWP) as mandated by the EPA.

Individuals registering for this online course consisting of twelve (12) modules, complete training at their convenience…in the evening or other down time…anywhere there is access to the Internet.  Note:  The online modules take approximately six (6) hours to complete and will vary from individual to individual based on the pace at which you view the modules.

NOTE:  HANDS-ON TRAINING REQUIREMENT

Successful completion of RRP Training requires your participation in a 2-hour "hands-on" skills assessment class.  In order to expand your options to more than just a few major cities, we hold classes regionally around the country based on demand.  Some travel time is involved and classes are subject to a minimum number of participants.

What does it cost?
The cost for the "online" and the "hands-on" Lead Safe Work Practices training is $195.00.

Note:  The EPA and possibly your state have firm licensing fees that are in addition to the training fee.  Visit http://www.epa.gov/lead/pubs/renovation.htm#contractors for more information.  The following states have been authorized by the EPA to run their own state programs:  Wisconsin, Iowa, North Carolina, Mississippi, Kansas, Rhode Island, Utah, Oregon and Massachusetts.  These states may have requirements over and above those of the EPA.

The Advantage of Online Training
Online learning or e-learning is growing in popularity.  It is a MUST for busy people today.  Instead of sitting in uncomfortable chairs, in stuffy rooms, daydreaming or thinking about what you have to do when you return to work, you take the courses when you want, when you are ready.

The advantages of doing training online are many.

  • Structured Approach (integrated course content built for the Internet)
  • Convenience (do training anywhere you have access to the Internet)
  • Efficiency (online training is to the point, no superfluous information or distractions)
  • Instant Feedback (a testing component is included with each chapter)
  • Ask Questions of a Certified Trainer Online (the comfort of asking questions without feeling awkward)
  • Reduced Travel (do the majority of your training at home, a library, or the office)
  • No Lost Productive Time (learn when you choose and get back to the job)
  • Learn in a Non-Stressful Environment (you have control over your training experience)
  • Eliminate Lost Wages (do training on your own time…evenings, weekends, etc.)
  • Cost (instant online access to training manuals and forms eliminates the cost of buying books and your work schedule is uninterrupted)
  • It’s Effective (It is a proven fact that most learners do not retain all of the training delivered in a classroom)
  • Revisit Training When Needed (You have permanent access to the training, necessary forms and manuals)
  • Better Training Effectiveness (one-on-one training online is vastly superior to a large classroom audience)

Why is Lead Safe Training Required?
Common renovation activities like sanding, cutting, and demolition can create hazardous lead dust and chips by disturbing lead-based paint, which can be harmful to adults and children.  To protect against this risk, on April 22, 2008, EPA issued the final rule requiring the use of lead-safe practices and other actions aimed at preventing lead poisoning.

Under the rule contractors performing renovation, repair and painting projects that disturb lead-based paint in residential homes, apartments, child care facilities, and schools built before 1978 must be certified and must follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination.

The Renovation, Repair and Painting rule affects contractors, property managers and others who disturb lead-based paint during renovation activities done for compensation.

The rule will affect paid renovators who work in pre-1978 housing and child-occupied facilities, including:

  • Contractors
  • Remodelers
  • Renovation contractors
  • Maintenance workers in multi-family housing
  • Painters and other specialty trades (i.e. plumbers, mechanical contractors, roofing contractors, electricians, etc.)
